Road Sweepers

Sustainable Refurbishment

The refurbishment of road sweepers is becoming increasingly common among Contractors and Councils alike as the process allows the elongating of life for front line machines.

Refurbishment is an incredibly cost-effective solution to replacing your sweeper, by extending the existing machines life you benefit from a lower overall carbon footprint, which is better for the environment.

We offer Paint/repaint services, full bodyshop repairs including shot blast facilities and have our own bespoke in-house design service.

We also offer a unique remounting service, in which you can re-use an existing vehicles chassis allowing you to take advantage of the cost savings and environmental benefits of not needing a new chassis.

“Amazingly, 85% of the road sweeping body of the old truck has managed to be recycled into the new one, or to put that into a bigger context, a massive 2.4 tonnes of steel from the truck has been reused and made into our shiny new vehicle meaning that this is another step forward for PMG and creating a circular economy and a greener business”

Why Refurbishment?

Often, the trucks that we re-furbish have been sitting unused in people fleets due to various issues, whether it’s damaged beyond resonable repair, no longer financially viable to run or has to big of an environmental impact to run in specific areas of the country. Older engines specifically contribute a higher level or air pollution than newer more efficient engines.

“On average, 1.9 tonnes of CO2 are emitted for every tonne of steel produced. According to the International Energy Agency, the iron and steel industry accounts for approximately 4-5% of total world CO2 emissions.” – World Steel Association.

By Refurbishing an old truck rather than manufacturing a brand new one, an average estimation calculates a saving of 4.56 tonnes of CO2 in the production process alone, not to mention the cost savings on raw materials.

Another great reason to have your machine refurbished by us is the new Clean Air Zone (CAZ) regulations, these regulations are already in place in Bath and are soon coming into effect in Bristol. This regulation has been active for many years within larger Cities.

We can often reuse the majority of materials used in a previous build, one example of a customer we were able to salvage a massive 2.4 tonnes of steel from the truck which was reused and made into the brand new vehicles ths creating a cicular economy and a greener business.

Our Process

Vigorous Testing

An evaluation of the condition of the road sweeper prior to the equipment being dismantled is where we begin, our vigorous tests will reveal any underlying issues that will be noted and addressed later on in the process.

Strip Down

Once everything has been fully assessed, we start the strip down procedure, every nut, bolt and washer is removed and every part laid out. The purpose of this step is to ensure nothing has been missed on the original inspection, repairs are then carried out at this point should they need it.

Shot Blasting

The parts are then shot blasted to give them a key for the paint process, this is done with a fine media to remove any rust and existing paint. When completed we are left with clean, raw parts ready to go through to our powder-coating process. This consists of an undercoat grey layer of powder coat primer, and one top coat to a matte black finish.

Additional Strip Down

The auxiliary engine is removed and sent away for reconditioning and painting (if required). The sweeper body is also removed, stripped down and shot-blasted until we are left with a clean surface ready to be repaired and sent straight to a commercial body-shop to be sprayed.

Paint

Once the painting process has been completed the equipment is then reassembled using the following NEW items:

-Nuts and bolts throughout.
-Hydraulic hoses.
-Pneumatic pipes.
-High and low pressure water hoses.
-Rubber seals throughout.
-Various consumable items.
-Any new items that are required.

Re-Assembly

The equipment is then assembled into sub assemblies and remounted to your chosen chassis.

Next, the body will be dressed, remounted & all service lines re-connected.

Finally we complete a 220 point pre-delivery inspection to make sure you receive your refurbished road sweeper back in perfect condition.
